The Taste of a Real Burger

The food of heavens has been bestowed upon us. I have finally tasted the real juicy delicious burger. Its called Carl's Junior!

This burger is 100x better than McD. You people are being conned by McD by their slick happy-happy advertisment and al-cheapo crap burger. Forget the clown restaurant. Be a man and get this burger. Its better than Burger Kings as well.

If its good enough for Paris Hilton, its good enough for me..

A Wendy Senario

I tried out Wendy's today at Sunway Pyramid. I bought Grilled Chicken burger and my wife bought Fish burger. Both burger tasted mediocre at best. The burger was so salty. Another advise at the washroom, the tap has hot and cool feature. Unlike other restaurants where they only fake the hot part, this restaurant, the hot water is really scalding HOT!

I am sticking to Burger King. Ohh yeah, its been more than a YEAR since I had a McD burger ever since I joined the Hate McD cult. So people it is possible to stop eating fast food.

For the first time in my life, I paid movie tickets for a Malay movie - Senario The Movie Episod 1. From the trailer, it looked really funny, so ok lah, bagi can.

Within 10 minutes into the movie, I regret paying the RM 22 and vow never to buy tickets for any Malay movie. I will just watch it on Astro.

The comedy and the slapstick joke is so lame. The worst part was, all the best part in the movie has already been shown in their trailer. So what is there more to expect? The crowd although laughed at all the dumb jokes, I just couldn't get it. How can you laughed at the same jokes twice? You already know what will happen next.

Talking about the crowd, they acted and laughed as if they were watching in their living room. Out of the blue there was a shoe on my shoulder, the guy behind me decided to extend his leg and watch the show. Such a rowdy crowd. Dumb ass!

I really like Malay and Indonesian movie, but this movie is really sad. The only time I laughed during the movie was when the "Makcik" was doing the drift.

My all time favourite is still "Jutawan Fakir". I have watched it to the umpteenth time and I still laugh. Apek, ur the best!

Nabil, you are good too! During Sahur, I never missed watching "Lu Pikirlah Sendiri" show by Nabil. Funny guy. Apparently he has few movies lined up - "Sifu", "Shh... Dia Datang Lagi" and "Lu Pikirlah Sendiri de Movie". Hoping to catch those... err.. but I will wait for it on Astro.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Hari Raya is just around the corner, which means Ramadhan is ending quite soon.

salam-aidilfitri02

Plagiarized from http://dungun.blogspot.com

This year's Ramadhan has been quite meaningful to me. I have learn a lot in terms of spiritual and the fact that God is ever forgiving. I am happy Raya is coming, but sad that I didn't fully utilised Ramadhan.

I would like to share with everyone on this very useful and intelligently done website. Its an online Quran. It has translation (English, Malay and Urdu) and audio of Quran recitation.

So everyone, Muslim or non-Muslim, now you have the oppurtunity to learn about the Quran. So before you label every Muslim to be turban headed and a gun trotting terrorist who loves to blow up people with planes, lets try to learn about the Quran and its true meaning.

Quran Explorer - Interactive Audio Recitations & Translations

This year Raya will be the first year without my dad. I will make a visit to him after my Raya prayers. Raya this year will be low key, "baju raya pun tak beli lagi..."

Selamat Hari Raya to all my readers... although only handful of you. You make my day each time you place a comment. Thank you very much. If I have written something that might have offended you, please don't put me into ISA. "Maaf Zahir Batin".

Bali Trip

I am suppose to update on Day 2, but its has been sometime now that I have forgotten what I did. All I can remember now was that I had a bad food poisoning after Made Warung.

I remember getting up around 6 AM, my stomach was rumbling. After that the entire 2 days was gone and I spend most of my time in the loo.

On the 3rd, we transferred over to Bali Island Villa for 4D3N. I had to go to the clinic. The staff brought me to the clinic nearby and waited for me - very nice of them. The charge for some diarrhoea medicine - RM 200 ++! What a rip-off!

Below is the snippets of the entire trip:-

Day 2:-
  • Toilet
  • Massage in Samaya, was OK.
  • Seminyak Town - short lived journey
  • Toilet
  • A romantic beach side dinner. It was really nice eating by the beach and listening to the breaking of the waves. Check it out.

Day 3:-

Bali Island Villa's Pool

Bali Island Villa's Living Room

Bali Island Villa's Living Room

  • I initially choose Bali Island because of the pool, however I have since regret it. Samaya was much better. Hotel reviews are at the bottom of this post.
  • Dinner Cruise - Initially it was boring, since there were large group of Korean and Chinese people. The band sang songs dedicated for them which we didn't understand a thing. There is nothing much except for the boat leaving to the sea and eating buffet.
  • There were some interesting entertainment and my wife and me got invited to do some rather "erotic" game. Ohh God...
  • Finally we meet a large Malaysian group from Celcom - Apa khabar?
  • Towards the end, there were some sexy dance, see below.

Day 4:-

  • I have recovered from my food poisoning. I ask the villa's driver to sent me to Kuta Town. Remember, although not compulsory, but I had to tip the driver each time. My total tips for this trip cost me nearly few hundred Ringgit.
  • Kuta is full of people trying to make money out of you. We did manage to walk until Kuta beach and Hard Rock cafe. Its full of people. Reminds me of Pattaya.
  • We visited Tanah Lot and another temple (can't remember the name now). Tanah Lot is full of shops and you will need to bargain up to 50-70%. Good stuff.

  • Once we return to the villa, I had a surprise waiting for my wife. A romantic candle light dinner beside the pool. Check it out! Ain't I romantic?

Day 5:-

  • An interesting day. We had our breakfast in the villa. Sadly, the breakfast is disappointing. We were too spoiled in Samaya.
  • We had our massage in Tanah Merah Spa part of Bali Island Villa. In my years of getting massage, this is the best massage I ever had. It's not the spa, but the masseur. She was really good! I could feel my entire body went into deep state of relaxation.
  • Next was Uluwatu Tour and Kechek dance. On top of the hill, there is specatcular view of the ocean.

View from Uluwatu

  • I really enjoyed the Kechek / Kecak / Monkey dance. It's about a story of Rama and Sita taken from a small part of the Ramayana epic story of 50,000 lines. Audience were given the storyline ahead so we could relate the dance sequence with the story. I am big fan of history, so this excited me.

  • After the dance, we were ushered to Jimbaran Bay for some beach side seafood dinner. Yes, more dinner. Call me romantic, after all this is my honeymoon trip.
  • Due to darkness, this is the only valuable shoot that I could get.

Dinner at Jimbaran Bay

  • After the dinner, we come back to find the bedroom was flooded. Apparently there was a leak from the toilet and it spilled over to the bedroom.
  • Soon, we had an uninvited guess. Hermit the Frog, decided to have a beach party in my leaking toilet. Gosh...

Day 6:-

  • Time to go home. Before the airport, we stopped for a 2 hour spa treatment.
  • Could not compare against Tanah Merah, but we did have a pretty good spa treatment including body scrub. Place was nice and clean.
  • Back to airport, flight was delayed - nothing surprising.
  • I just couldn't wait to come back home and have a proper shower. Somehow I feel the showers in Bali are mixed with salt water.

It was a good trip however we didn't do any water sports activity at all. Maybe the next time but definitely in a group of friends.

I am 30!

25th July 2008 - I am officially 30 years old. Yup, I have reached the big 3-0. I feel so old now. Honestly, I started to feel old since I hit 20.

My good friends threw me a nice birthday party at Las Carrestas. The year before TGI, and the year before that Sunway Hotel. I have such wonderful friends.

It was very nice dinner. They made me wear a Mexican hat! Aya Caramba! Food was good although a bit pricey. A very delicious chocolate cake from Suchan. What more can you ask when you are around with good friends and good food? Thank you so much guys!

After dinner, we headed to our one of our friends new house in Puchong. She has a nice house on top of the hill which has a very spectacular night view of Puchong.

Right now I am 30 going 31. I just hope when I am 40, I have achieved all my goals in life. I get really envy when I watch ETV. They aren't even 25 and they are millionaires. Damn rich kids.

I means its sux to be 30, but since life begins at 40, I guess I still have 10 more years to fool around! Age is just number, Ganee.....

Bali - Day 1

I was in Bali from 12 June – 17 June. Below is my story.

  • Landed 20 minutes earlier than scheduled via AirAsia. I am surprised.
  • “Sabuk Pengaman” means seat belt. "Kartu" means card.
  • AirAsia Indonesian air stewardess are hot!
  • Came out of the airport thru a maze and saw a guy holding a card with my name on it. First time ever!
  • Drove to my villa – Samaya. This is best villa ever. I was greeted with the frangipani and the manager there knew my name. Due to some mistake, I was upgraded to Royal Courtyard. Its huge!
  • I was assigned a butler, however he went missing after the first day.

Decided to have lunch in the hotel, check out the view. Indian ocean. Waves are really big!

At night, we decided to visit the famous Ku De Ta Plaza. It turned out to be a very posh and hyped up place. After looking at the menu, there was nothing that we could eat. We called our driver from the hotel to pick us up and sent us to another place. We ended up at Made’s Warung.

Made’s Warung, I regret eating here..

After dinner, we decided to go back. Only take BlueBird taxis guys. The rest are just leaches. However, my nightmare was just about to begin. Wait for Day 2.

Minyak ... ohh Minyak...

Fuel is up by RM 0.78 which makes it RM 2.70 per litre. I am actually all for no subsidy for petrol, that way the government can save the billions of dollar and spend wisely on good and efficient public transportation.

Half empty or half full?: Azhan Sharom showing the difference of how much petrol one can buy with RM1 Wednesday and today at a petrol station in Kuala Terengganu. - Taken From The Star Online

Sadly this is Malaysia. Our planning is grand but our execution is certainly poor. I have some questions for the government of today on fuel:-

  • Why there is no tax cut for hybrid cars?
  • Why Proton is not working on alternative fuel engine cars? Do you know in Brazil, cars run on ethanol and its mass produced by Ford and Honda?
  • Why Thailand can have proper public transport integration between their SkyTrain, underground Metros, Bus Rapid Transit and even the river boats? And we can't even connect our monorail with KL Sentral? What more of Masjid Jamek station?
  • People are complaining about KTM Komuter for ages, why no immediate action and contingency plan?
  • UK and Japan Prime Minister emphasis on alternative fuel development, we?

Change lifestyle to curb inflation

Petrol price up by 78 sen - and will be reviewed monthly

Pak Lah, you said we need to change our lifestyle. How lah? We are only drawing salary and every month we budget for our necessities? What more you want us to cut down? We don't live in mansions and we drive Protons. You want us to take the bus to work? Why not you start first? Heard of leadership by example?

Ministers might not realise since they live in huge mansions and fuel is practically free for them. They get chauffeured around Perdana (2.0 ni..) or X5s with Police outriders (Lagi bazir minyak ini...). You guys isi minyak pakai duit rakyat, I don't think you understand the situation of the rakyat out there. Economy is struggling, and what more can we want cut down? Anymore, we might as well we stop breathing.

A New Career Path

2nd of June, 2008. On this date, I have officially decided to launch my own company. It's called Green Cube Solutions Sdn. Bhd.

logo_greencube_ongblack

Green Cube will be focusing on Microsoft range of product. Following is my services:-

  • Web development based on ASP.Net platform
  • Microsoft SharePoint, Dynamics and CRM
  • SMS / Mobile development
  • SAP

My ambition for this company is to deliver quality product and more importantly, it must makes sense to our customers. Its been always client vs vendor, but very rarely we can see vendor doing what will make sense for the client. I hope to change this. It must makes sense! Hey looks like I have an unofficial motto.

 arthed

I face a lot of resistance in this endeavour, many said "Don't do it, bad economy, its not a good time.. etc"

I have only 2 dreams in my life. One was shattered a long time ago and 2nd is business. I decided not to wait to long to carry on my 2nd dream, thus Green Cube was born. I lost one dream, should I wait and lose another?

If I don't do this, then I will regret the rest of my life. One mistake was costly enough.

Right now, sleepless night is nothing new. The amount of stress is incredible. Being a CEO of a company is no walk in the park. Not a day goes by without thinking, have I closed a deal today? Do I have enough to sustain? What new technology that I can sell?

Its exciting but terribly stressful. However, if you want to be a entrepreneur, these are all part of it. Nobody said it was easy. Wish me luck guys!

MYDIN

I do my grocery shopping at Giant Supermarket. I had a issue with Giant previously and I decided to boycott them. But I have no choice to go back to them due to the proximity and choice of goods.

MYDIN USJ

Today, I found a better place to shop, its MYDIN Hypermarket USJ. The stuff there is really cheap! Some by more than RM 1 in difference than Giant. The parking is a bit of hassle but you don't have to queue at the counter, even on Saturdays. Counter people seems to be friendly as well. This will be my new place to shop for grocery. Screw you Giant!

The amazing part was since Giant USJ and MYDIN is side by side, I notice MYDIN parking is full and Giant parking was virtually empty. Buawahahahha!

Lesson to learn here :- Don't think that just because you're big and rich, thus you are high and mighty and can ignore the small people. Don't be a rent seeker either, because once someone else comes in with a better product, service and cheaper pricing, you are so screwed!

Rent Seekers

What is a rent seeker in Malaysia's context. Read this. The past week I had my first experience with such a company. Sadly it was a Bumi company. Typical? You tell me.

I don't usually blog about work, but I have to this time.

I was awarded a project. I was forced to work with a rent seeking company who is buddy buddy with the client. Honestly, I am OK with all this cronyism as long you are able to deliver with spectacular result. I am perfectionist, so they say in the office. I expect quality in work. Of course I am paying for the service, don't I deserve the best in return?

Well, back to the story. I sent an email to confirm on certain task to be taken up. After 2 emails, no reply. As a prime contractor, I have to beg to a subcontractor company to get task done. Who is paying who here? After I threaten to give the project to another party if he doesn't comply, guess what? He actually sent a nasty email to me and blasting me! AH!? Got ah such thing? Only in Malaysia, man. The rent seeking mentality.

A Malay engineer who is a friend of mine, commented that these days those who do not deserve to get projects are getting it, simply because they know people. Even the deserving Malays are feeling marganlized with such corruptions.

In the email, along the lines, he claims he is the expert and deserves to be in the project. In the first place, I never wanted to work with them because in my past experience they sux! Documents are standard of a 5 year old. Slow and incompetent, hardly attends meeting or bother to reply emails. But I was forced to work with them. Understand the term Rent Seekers now?

Being in anger management therapy now, I just decided to ignore the dumb email from a very dumb person. Only in Malaysia, the rent seekers can thrive. How can MSC or Malaysia progress to the standards of international quality. If this co. were to go overseas, the Mat Salleh would have spit at his face and throw him out if they ever saw the type of documents produced.

All in all, I just kept quiet knowing, in 5 -10 years time, my company will go global due to the emphasis I make on quality and merit. This company, it will be where it was yesterday. How far can you go by being a crony rent seeker?

My father passed away

As unexpected it might seem, my father passed away on 4th March 2008. The cause of the death is probably due to liver sclerosis.

I got a called around 11 AM + that my father was fell down. Thinking he might have slipped and fell, I rushed with my friend to get him. We managed to find him and rush him PPUM. Then things started to take a turn, doctors were perplexed on his condition. His BP was low and he was complaining about abdominal pain. By 5PM+, doctor told me that he will not make it. I rushed home to fetch my mom and sis. I didn't tell them the actual situation. By the time I reached the hospital around 6.19PM, my father has passed away at 6.17PM.

Here is some notes I would like to share especially Muslims about burial procedures:-

  • If death within 24 hours, doctors will insist that they perform an post mortem.
  • If deceased has an insurance policy, the insurance company will insist on a post mortem report.
  • As family, you can fight the post mortem if the Police is satisfied there was no crime involved.
  • Body will be moved to mortuary. You need to get a burial permit from either DBKL or Police Selangor.
  • The PIC will handover to you a JPN letter. Photocopy your burial permit.
  • You will need to inform the nearest mosque to perform the religious rites. They will arrange the van, bath and prayers. You will need to go to the nearest burial office to get a burial spot. MPPJ's is near Jln 222. You handover your "ORIGINAL" burial permit to them. Without it, they will not conduct a burial. Burial cost is RM 120.
  • My father was buried at Kota Damansara. A new burial area.
  • Total burial cost will be below RM 600.
  • On the 3rd day, visit the grave after Subuh, to read Yasin and doas.
  • Go to JPN to get a death certificate. Please bring the photocopy of the burial permit, the JPN form and original NRIC of the deceased. They con me of paying RM 5.
  • Read alot of Yasin and conduct tahlil for 3 nights. The more people, the better. Prepare some food for the guests.
  • Perform a tahlil on the 40th day.
  • Get a Imam or anyone to khatam a Quran within the 40 days.
  • You need to ensure whether the deceased as a Will. It will be easier with it.
  • In order to close a bank account, bring Mom, with marriage certificate, passbook, IC, and death certificate.
  • There is alot of work to be done once a person has passed away. The burden lies on the living. Thus, now I realise that we can go anytime. A Will is important and a list of items to be done in case of death, should be prepared earlier by everyone, so the living can proceed the task with ease.

My father and I, we were not close but he was a good man. He took care of the family and me, no matter what and even the old age, he still worked. He didn't ask money from me, but I am happy that I am managed to give him during his time alive.

My father was a nobody, but even that, he knew the right people. He ensure that I got everything I needed although we were poor. I remember he had to beg the shop owner to reduce the price of the bicycle I wanted so badly, although he didn't have money to pay. He got me into University. He helped me for a government job. He brought me to the library in his motorcycle, while he worked at a stall. He bought me my first car and paid all the installment until I got my first job. He paid for my wedding with his KWSP. All these sacrifice of a father. I am sad that I am unable to repay fully his efforts.

He thought me a few things in life,
  • Be always punctual
  • Carry a pen
  • Drive slowly
  • Work for the government
  • How to change tyres and mechanical stuff

But as a stubborn kid, I didn't always listen.

Regrets that I have:-

  • Unable to go to Umrah together
  • A family photo
  • Provide him everything so that he can rest at home instead of working

As the saying goes, you don't know what you have until you lose it. All those chain email was right. Do it know, say you love them, provide for them. Don't wait until its too late.

I am strong now, I have to be. Now I have to work hard, so I can provide my Mom and sis a better life. Time is running short, life is tough.

Al-Fatifah.

Raoul boutique - Only for the super rich?

I needed to get some shirts, so I headed to 1-Utama today. After looking through Padini store, nothing interested me, so why not drop by Raoul and see what they have. I hate going to these kindda store because the salesperson there always give me the that look "Another window shopper who can't afford Raoul shirts" since I always come with T-shirt and jeans. Luck as it, I met another one here.

A Raoul Store

I looked around and saw one nice shirt and I asked the "Idiot" how much was the discount. He gave me the look "You still want to buy ah? Some more ask for discount ah?" and said "30%". OK, then I asked, what can I get with my OneCard (Since I just got it from the Microsoft seminar last week). Idiot said "I dunno" and walked off. He passed some remarks to his colleague and both giggle.

Actually from the OneCard directory there is a discount for Raoul. So I guess this "Idiot" not only a uninformed idiot but a total moron as well. I am not that rich, but I have enough to buy shirts from Raoul.

Too bad for him, I walked off and went to G2000 and splurged there. G2000 customer service was so good and they called me "Sir" all the time. How's that for respecting a consumer, regardless how he/she looks.

For retailers, please don't judge the book by its cover. For God's sake its 1-Utama, you expect me to shop around with a Tux?

Being a Tech Freak!

My first post for the year 2008. I am going to start the year by being a tech freak. Below are the items that I want to buy NOW!

iPod Classic
I don't want iPod Touch. I just want this. It has 160 GB of storage. Now, I just need to test it whether it will work better than my Windows Media in my Dopod.

Amazon Kindle

This is God-sent device to me. I am so in love in this machine. I want one but life is ever cruel. This item is only sold in US.

I don't understand why Americans loves to tease and torture us by taunting us with videos of such marvelous device yet unattainable. I freaking migrating to US. My dream of completely disposing paper is here. The e-books reader of all time. Save the trees, save the world. And no, Hiro didn't came back from the future and told me this.

Sony Reader Digital Book

Kindda lame name for a ebook reader. I thought since I couldn't get Kindle, this would be it but yet again, the Japs screwed us. This product is not sold in Malaysia and the eConnect website is only available to Americans.

I just don't get it, did we do something wrong? I mean, we let you run our country for few years and then we forgive and we drive your cars, we buy your tvs, fridge, aircon, washing machine, laptops and we worship your anime and what else did we do wrong? Tell me!?

Nokia N95

No, I haven't gave up on my Dopod and defected to Nokia. Planning to get this for my wife. But of course in the same time, I get to play with it as well.

Seems like a pretty good phone with all features that you can think of jammed into one tiny box. The price has dropped since the initial price of RM 3K. It has GPS, WiFi, 3G, 5 Mega pixel Carl Zeiss Optic lens and etc... very cool.

Garmin Nuvi
This is a GPS navigation tool. Why do I need it? Its like a chicken and egg situation, you don't need all the time, but when you need directions, you go like "Damn, I should have bought the GPS thing!".

I am not sure what model I am looking at but in the US it seems they have more range than the one I saw in Digital Mall (why I am not surprised?). And the bugger tried to pull a fast one on me, when he tried to sell me a Nuvi 750 for 3K and in Lelong its only 2K++. Bugger....

Well that is my tech wish for this year but not limited just the above. I just hope I can get my hands on all of them.
